On location in Milan – a map users perspective

Having designed the transport map of Milan and this one being published in The Thomas Cook Pocket Guide to Milan, I wanted to showcase the experience of a non-resident to compare what can be achieved through my field research and good design principles and that of using a locally available map from the information office.

Here is the result in this 3 minute video.

As many of you will know, Milan has an extensive network of trams, as well as a modern metro system, and they’re a great way to get around and to also see the city too.

The page sizes of most guide books are just not suitable to scaling down the official transit map to fit and so this is one of the areas where I have particularly been able to provide an important and useful service for more than a quarter of a century.
